New tourist tax on campers travelling to Catalonia, Spain

The government of Catalonia, Spain has recently passed a new tourism tax which will come into force the 1st of November 2012.

The tourism tax is part of a sustainable tourism approach with the goal of assuring sustainability and long-lasting tourism. The purpose is to alleviate the burden put on the nature especially exposed due to tourism.

The intention of the tax is to impose an additional fee on the stays and nights spent on the campsites of Catalonia. Worth noticing is that the new tourist tax does not apply to other Spanish regions than Catalonia.

The Camping Association of Barcelona have decided not to apply this tax to campers visiting campsites in Catalonia and guests therefore should not worry about increased prices.
